No. If San Jose had made the final this year they would've gotten two 1sts

Crazy amount of draft picks, a cap dump or two would add even more future assets to that pile. Not a huge Dorion fan but he’s done well in setting up the Sens for a solid 3-5 year rebuild.

San Jose is a good fit for Karlsson. Good fan base with solid hockey knowledge. Lots of Northeastern and Canadian transplants sprinkled within a huge high tech industry.

I don't think I would've paid $11M x 8 with Karlsson the way he is today (injury stuff). 2 years, yes, but not today.

Mind you I had nothing to worry about either way since we have that Eugene guy running the show.

Curious to see how we'll be spending that $12.8M now... Hopefully not on an expensive Ceci contract.

One other note on the 2nd round pick this year - it is Florida's not SJ's. Ottawa received whichever pick was higher. Since SJ finished higher than Florida this season Ottawa gets the higher Florida 2nd round pick.

There's no real chance that Ottawa would have offered what San Jose gave Karlsson, especially in terms of contract structure (i.e. high up-front bonus structure for the first 4 years).

Factor in how well Tierney and DeMelo have worked out, the fact that Norris signed and they got the conditional 2nd rounder, and how risky it would have been to chance trading Karlsson mid-season (especially in a season where he missed 1/3 of the games), and I think you have to concede that Dorion didn't do too badly in this deal.

It's also good to see that they signed Duclair to a reasonable 1yr deal. This next year will be the real test for him, to see if he's got a long-term future with the rebuilding team... or if he could be flipped at the deadline, as could be the case with the likes of Tierney, DeMelo, Boedker, and Pageau.

Getting an extra second is nice, time will tell what impact it has on San Jose next year.

Sens will have a ton of picks in the next few years. Next years draft will be pivotal.

Mckenzie's draft rankings came out today. Lavoie, Suzuki, Kalieyv at the 19, 20,21.

I know Kalieyv is a wild card, but I really like his potential

I love Erik Karlsson, but the over/under on when that contract starts to be a real anchor can't be longer than 3/4 years IMO
